In Jacksonville this past weekend, Ilia Topuria made a huge statement in the UFC featherweight division.
Topuria, also known as “El Matador,” had his first main event against Josh Emmett at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. Despite facing a tougher opponent, Topuria dominated Emmett for five rounds.
Now, Topuria has his sights on the championship. He believes he deserves a shot at the winner of the upcoming Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair RodrÃguez fight. However, before going after the title, Topuria is open to a bout with former champion Max Holloway at the first-ever UFC event in Spain.
Topuria has a special connection to Spain, as he moved there from Germany at the age of 15 and started his martial arts training at the Climent Club in Alicante.
With his rapidly rising popularity in the UFC, it’s possible that the promotion’s debut in Spain is not far away.
