Nicknames in combat sports don’t always live up to their names. For example, “The Korean Zombie” wasn’t really undead, and “The Axe Murderer” didn’t really chop down any trees. However, Alexander Volkanovski’s nickname “The Great,” is an understatement when it comes to his accomplishments. He is one of the most decorated UFC champions and featherweights of all time.
Volkanovski has held the title since 2019 and has defended it five times, which is more than any other UFC champion. His next defense will be against Ilia Topuria in the main event of UFC 298. At 35 years old, Volkanovski will be looking to continue his success in the lower weight divisions.
In addition to Volkanovski’s bout against Topuria, there are other intriguing matchups to look forward to at UFC 298. For example, the middleweight bout between Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa, the welterweight bout between Geoff Neal and Ian Machado Garry, and the bantamweight bout between Merab Dvalishvili and Henry Cejudo will all bring their own unique storylines and excitement to the event.
