Sean Strickland Suggests Israel Adesanya Fight Is In Jeopardy: "I Don't Think UFC Wants It"

Sean Strickland, a UFC middleweight contender, is unsure if he will face Israel Adesanya at UFC 293.

Strickland previously defeated Abus Magomedov to maintain his position in the middleweight title picture. He has since bounced back with consecutive victories after losses to Jared Cannonier and Alex Pereira.

Originally, Dricus du Plessis was expected to be Adesanya’s next title defense at UFC 293 on September 10th. However, du Plessis may not be able to fight due to injury concerns.

Given du Plessis’ situation, Strickland emerged as a potential contender for the title. However, the status of their planned fight with Adesanya is uncertain.

Sean Strickland Expresses Concerns About Potential UFC 293 Fight

In a recent tweet, Strickland indicated that the potential fight with Adesanya at UFC 293 is up in the air.

“I mean I’m a grown ass man. I’d fight him right after my last fight if you pay me,” Strickland replied. I don’t think the ufc wants it soooo burgers for me..”

Strickland also commented on the fact that UFC 293 still does not have a main event, despite being only six weeks away.

“I will say it is wild they are having a card like that and don’t have a headline 6 weeks out,” Strickland said. “Someone at the ufc really dropped the ball on this…

“I offered. Best I could do. Maybe we can just have a parking lot event after for the aussies.”

Adesanya regained the middleweight belt by defeating Pereira in their rematch at UFC 287. He and du Plessis had a heated faceoff at UFC 290 to promote their expected title fight.

Strickland has had his sights on Adesanya since their press conference confrontation before UFC 276 last year. He is one of the few top middleweights who has not yet fought Adesanya.

As of now, the UFC has not officially announced a main event for UFC 293, and Strickland is puzzled by the approaching event.
